Symbol Linking

Symbol Linking is how you tell Chartnaut: “this chart market is the same as that symbol at my broker.”

Your chart might say EURUSD or ES. Your MetaTrader account might call the same market EURUSDm, EURUSD.a, or ES.cash. Until you link them, Chartnaut will not send a live order for that chart on that account.

You only do this once per chart market on each MetaTrader account. Chartnaut never guesses and links for you — you confirm.

Why this matters

Without a link:

  • Live trades from that chart cannot go to the right broker symbol

  • Prices may not bind cleanly to your account

With a link:

  • Orders from that chart go to the symbol you chose

  • The chart can show live status for that market on this account

Linking is per account. The same chart can link to different broker names on two MetaTrader connections.

Chartnaut Demo does not need Symbol Linking.

When you will see it

Chartnaut asks you to link when you first try to trade (or draft a trade on) a chart market that is not linked yet for the active MetaTrader account — for example when you:

  • Start a new position from the chart

  • Confirm a live trade

  • Attach a broker position to a chart

You pick the matching broker symbol from suggestions (or search), then confirm. Canceling cancels the draft — nothing is sent.

  1. Connect MetaTrader under Trading → Accounts

  2. Open Terminal → Real-time with that account selected

  3. Open the chart market you want to trade

  4. Start a trade (or follow the link prompt when it appears)

  5. Choose the broker symbol that matches that market and confirm

After you confirm, Chartnaut remembers the link for that account and market.

If something looks wrong

What you see

What to try

No suggestions

Search in the dialog; confirm the symbol exists in MetaTrader

Prices look wrong

You may have linked the wrong contract — open linking again and pick again

Linked but no quotes

Wait for the chart to reconnect; remove and re-add the instrument

Trade still blocked

Re-open linking and refresh; check the account is still connected

You can review or change a link from the symbol link control on the chart or position manager — for example after switching brokers or fixing a wrong match.

Important distinctions

Symbol Linking = chart market ↔ broker symbol for live MetaTrader. Replay / Backtest use session instruments — not this live link. Position replay from Trades does not change your live links.
