Create a session

A backtest session is historical market data you trade through manually — like live trading, but on past prices with no broker and no real money.

Create a session

  1. Open Backtest in the sidebar (under Trading).

  2. Click New session — at the top of the session list or the + row.

  3. On the New Session screen, set:

  • Instruments and timeframes you want on the chart

  • Date range (or random start) for the historical window

  • Account balance, costs, and risk settings if you use Advanced

  1. Click Start Session (top right).

Chartnaut creates the session and opens the Terminal with that session loaded so you can begin trading through the candles.

Use Basic for a fast setup. Switch to Advanced on the same page when you need commissions, slippage, risk limits, or data-source options.

While you trade

  • Historical bars advance when you press play in the Terminal.

  • Enter, manage, and exit trades on the chart as you would live.

  • Trades save to Trades with a backtest origin — they do not route to MetaTrader.

Pause anytime. You do not need to finish in one sitting.

Pick up later

Sessions stay in your Backtest library. To continue where you left off, open the session and click Play — see Continue your backtesting.

Next

  1. Continue your backtesting — reopen a session and resume

  2. Review a session — stats and journal trades after a run
