Tags and R-levels

Tags and R-levels are how you label what happened on a trade — setup quality, exit reason, partials, and outcome in R multiples — so playbook reports and Historical Intelligence speak your language.

Define them per Playbook. Apply them when journaling in Trades or during playbook collection sessions.

Tags

Tags are short labels you attach to trades:

  • Setup variant ("failed breakout", "A+ stack")

  • Mistake markers ("early entry", "moved stop")

  • Context ("news day", "half size")

Consistent tags make filters and reports useful. Invent a small set first — expand only when review demands it.

Manage playbook tags

  1. PlaybooksManage Playbook

  2. Open Tags tab

  3. Create, edit, or archive tags for this strategy

Global trade tags may also exist outside playbooks — playbook tags scope to that book's vocabulary.

R-levels

R expresses outcome relative to initial risk — +1R means you made one unit of risk, -1R means you lost one unit.

R-levels in Chartnaut are predefined buckets for how far price reached or where you exited:

  • Partial at +0.5R

  • Full target at +2R

  • Stopped at -1R

Configure R-level definitions on the Playbook so collection and intelligence aggregate the same way every time.

Apply on trades

When closing or reviewing a trade:

  1. Open the trade in Trades or the playbook session trades view

  2. Set tags that describe the trade

  3. Record R-level or outcome fields the playbook expects

Do it while memory is fresh — same session if possible.

How labels feed intelligence

Historical Intelligence groups trades by instrument and tag patterns. Sloppy labels produce noisy likelihoods.

Aim for:

  • Same tag for the same mistake every time

  • Honest R recording — not wishful +3R on a scratch

Retrain or refresh intelligence after you fix tag hygiene on a batch of trades.

Important distinctions

Playbook tags train strategy-scoped intelligence.

Research tags on definitions/events are a different layer — for studies, not Trade Book R-levels.

Custom fields on trades (Properties) are journal columns — not the same as playbook tag taxonomy.
